Dublin Rents Rise 8%, Labour Calls for Emergency Action

• Dublin rents have risen by 8% in the past year, according to new figures from the Residential Tenancies Board.
• The average rent on new tenancies in Dublin now stands at €2,102 per month.

Ivana Bacik TD, Labour Party Leader and spokesperson on housing has today criticised the government for consistently failing on housing, following recently published figures from the RTB which have shown that rents have once again risen.

 

Deputy Bacik said "These new figures provide a stark reminder about the scale of the housing crisis in Ireland. People are struggling to afford rent, and many are being forced to live in overcrowded or substandard accommodation. This is not sustainable.

 

“it’s also contributing to the huge numbers of young people having to remain living with their parents well into their 30s, a trend which is clear from recent CSO figures. 

 

“The Government needs to take urgent action to address the housing crisis. We need to build more social and affordable housing. And to implement Labour’s Renters’ Rights Bill which would introduce a transparency register for landlords so that tenants can see what previous rents have been paid for a property."

 

“We cannot afford to wait any longer," she said. "The Government must take urgent action to build more homes and make housing more affordable for everyone."
