I have always campaigned for equal rights for all irrespective of their sexuality - whether straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered.
From 2003-2006 I had a monthly column in Gay Community News and have been a regular speaker at gay rights events.
I am Junior Counsel for Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan, the plaintiffs in an important case currently before the High Court concerning legal recognition of a same-sex marriage contracted in Canada (see www.kalcase.org).
I have recently been involved in drafting civil partnership legislation to provide legal recognition for co-habiting couples, both same-sex and opposite-sex. Senator David Norris introduced this Bill in the Seanad, but we recently withdrew it in protest at the Government’s delay in providing for legal recognition for same-sex couples.
